Restaurant Review: The Post Office Bistro & Bar (Vasai – Mumbai, India)

The Indian Post is well known for, and visiting the post office would mean work with some letters or some financial transaction. But today this review is not about the Indian Post Office for letters, but about a restaurant which is themed around the Post Office.

This Restaurant is located in Vasai, next to the Vasai Gaon Bus Depot. You will find many other Restaurants and eateries around, but this one definitely stands out.

Before I take this review any further, lets take a glimps at the photos of the place and the food.

So getting back to the review…

Ambience

Located on the 1st floor, above Dominos, the entrance to this restaurant definitely makes you feel you are going to have some fun. The steps to walk up are wooden with some antiques like the old Rotary dial Phone some world Clocks, a post box and some other wall art, which gives you this aesthetic feel.

Entering the Restaurant, you definietly are in awe. The ambience is slightly low lit in yellow lights, and a well placed set of tables. The staff is very friendly and always ready to help you. In fact they take it as a pleasure as well as a responsibility to make sure you are server the food what is on your table. The Menu, isn’t the old Paper type book, but instead an iPad is handed over to you for you to select your menu, which has this option to add the items to your cart and then the waiter would confirm the order with you. Definitely one of a kind, or should I say the only please where in Vasai where you would see this. When it comes to the bill time, they get you the bill inside an envelope placed inside a small post box, which is again very fancy and gives you a slight excitement at the sight of something new.

Menu

The Menu has a good variety to choose from, between, Global,  Asian and Indian. You will definitely not find your self in a loss of dishes to choose from. I havn’t tried out all of them, from which ever I have, would surely be a recomendation from me.

The concept of using an iPad to let you choose your menu is something that I personally liked a lot, which is similar to the Options you have an The Bar Stock Exhange when you want to order drinks. More over if you are not too comfortable with placing the order from the device, you can just tell the steward and he will place the order.

I have visited the outler 2 times, and my orders were

  • Green apple mojito
  • Orange mojito
  • Blue Lagoon Mocktail
  • Tandoori Chicken Lollipops
  • Chicken Manchow soup
  • Burnt Garlic Fried rice
  • Prawn Biryani

Service

The Service is quick and friendly. You will always find someone available to help you. When the Food arrives at the table, its not left for self-service, instead the steward would be obliged to serve you. One of the person even went ahead and told me “It is my job to server you, let me do it” when I said I would server my self. The Orders placed get server in a well acceptable time.

Food Pricing

The Food Pricing isn’t too high. On Both Occassions my bill was around INR 1300/- for 3 Dishes and 2 mocktails. Moreover considering the ambience, the food and the hospitality, it’s definitely worth the price.

Food Review

Moktails were good, though I prefered the Green Apple Mojito the most. They had the right flavours, and nothing too strong in taste.

Tandoori Chicken Lollipops were well cooked. The Meat was soft and would come off the bone easily. Don’t have to bite or chew too much. The smokie flavour to the spicy masalla is definitely mouth watering.

Chicken Manchow soup was well made. Not to Spicy and not too salty. The amount of soya sauce used wasn’t too heavy on the palate.

Burnt Garlic Fried rice was more like a normal fried rice. This could have been better, but atleast it wasn’t over burnt or bitter.

Prawn Biryani was delicious. There was a good amount of prawns and they were well cooked. Event the rice packed a good load of flavour.

To conclude all I would say is this is definitely a place you should visit if in Vasai. 🙂
